How to Tell Your Murfreesboro Roof Needs Replacing

  • Your Roof Is 20+ Years Old: Most asphalt roofs in Middle Tennessee wear out at 20 to 25 years. Past that, repairs are only a short-term fix.
  • Bald Spots and Lost Granules: When shingles lose their protective granules across the whole roof, they stop shedding water and sun.
  • Leaks in More Than One Place: A single leak is a repair. Leaks in several spots usually mean the roof has reached the end of its life.
  • Curling, Cracking, or Missing Shingles: Widespread curling and cracking on every slope is age and sun damage, not a one-spot problem.
  • A Sagging Roofline: A dip or wave in the roofline can mean the decking underneath is failing and needs to come off.
  • Storm Damage Across the Roof: When hail or wind has bruised or torn shingles over most of the roof, a full replacement is the honest answer.

What Happens When You Replace a Roof with Storm Guard

Five steps, from your first call to a finished new roof.

01

Call or Send the Form

Tell us about your roof: its age, where it leaks, any storm damage, and what you want from a new one. If you have an insurance claim, mention it.

02

We Inspect and Measure

We get on the roof, check the decking and attic, and measure every slope, so your estimate and material count are exact, not guessed.

03

You See the Photos and Options

We show you photos of the roof's real condition, walk you through shingle and metal options and colors, and hand you a clear written estimate.

04

We Schedule and Prep

We set an install date that works for you, then protect your siding, landscaping, and driveway and stage the materials and dumpster.

05

Tear-Off and New Roof

We tear off the old roof, replace any bad decking, lay new underlayment, flashing, and vents, install your new roof, and clean up every nail with a magnet.

When Storm Damage Means a New Roof

Since 2023, Murfreesboro has seen 80 mph winds, golf ball-sized hail, and tornadoes. Each one damages a roof in its own way:

  • Straight-Line Wind: On July 29, 2024, a microburst with winds up to 80 mph crossed central Murfreesboro, and the National Weather Service survey noted shingles lost on a few houses (NWS). On May 20, 2025, a downburst with winds up to 80 mph damaged buildings near Blackman Road (NWS storm report). Wind lifts and creases shingles and can pull flashing loose.
  • Hail: On May 26, 2024, golf ball-sized hail, up to 1.75 inches wide, was reported 2 miles west of Murfreesboro, and the National Weather Service said numerous cars and roofs were damaged (NWS). Hail can crack or bruise shingles in ways you can't see from the ground.
  • Tornadoes: On April 1, 2023, an EF-2 tornado with 130 mph winds touched down 6 miles south of downtown Murfreesboro and damaged or destroyed numerous homes and businesses on its way to Readyville (NWS). On July 29, 2024, an EF-0 tornado crossed Murfreesboro and the MTSU campus, bringing down large branches and uprooting trees. Limbs and debris can puncture shingles and crack the decking underneath.

If one of these storms crossed your neighborhood and nobody has looked at the roof since, have it checked.

What a Storm Guard Roof Replacement Includes

  • Full Tear-Off: We strip the old roof down to the decking so we can see and fix what is underneath, not just cover it up.
  • Decking Repair: Any soft or rotten wood under the old roof gets replaced before the new roof goes on.
  • New Underlayment and Ice Barrier: A fresh moisture barrier goes over the whole deck, with extra protection in the valleys and along the eaves.
  • New Flashing, Boots, and Vents: The metal and seals around chimneys, walls, pipes, and vents are replaced, since that is where old roofs leak first.
  • Ridge Vents and Proper Ventilation: We set up intake and exhaust so your attic breathes, which helps the new roof last its full life.
  • Shingle or Metal, Your Choice: Architectural asphalt shingles or a standing-seam metal roof, in the color and style that fits your home.

Repair, Replace, or File a Claim?

When replacement is the right call. One worn spot can be repaired, but when shingles are brittle and bald across the whole roof, when leaks keep coming back, or when a storm has damaged most of the slopes, a new roof costs less over time than paying for repair after repair.

Age matters. Most asphalt roofs in Murfreesboro last 20 to 25 years. If yours is in that range and losing granules, replacing it now protects the decking and everything under it before water gets in.

Insurance. If a covered storm totaled your roof, your policy may pay for a full replacement minus your deductible. We document the damage with photos and meet your adjuster on site so nothing gets missed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a roof replacement cost in Murfreesboro?+
Most Murfreesboro roof replacements run from about $8,000 to $20,000, depending on the size and pitch of the roof, the material (asphalt or metal), and how much decking needs repair. We give you a firm written price after we measure, not a phone guess.
How long does a roof replacement take?+
Most homes are a one to two day job once we start. Larger or steeper roofs, metal roofs, and bad weather can add time. We confirm the schedule before we begin.
Should I repair or replace my roof?+
If the damage is in one area and the roof is otherwise sound, a repair is usually the right call. If the shingles are worn out across the whole roof, leaks keep coming back, or the roof is more than 20 years old, a replacement costs less over time. We tell you honestly which one you need.
Will insurance pay for my roof replacement?+
If a covered storm damaged your roof, your policy may pay for a full replacement minus your deductible. We document the damage and meet your adjuster on site so the claim reflects what actually happened.
What roofing materials do you install?+
Architectural asphalt shingles and standing-seam metal are our most popular in Murfreesboro. We help you pick the material, color, and warranty that fit your home and budget.
