Storm Guard Roofing of Nashville recently had the honor of contributing to a home build that holds deep meaning for a local veteran and his family. In partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation and Owens Corning, our team supported the construction of a specially adapted smart home for U.S. Army Sergeant (Ret.) Joshua Hargis. This project was part of the Foundation’s RISE program (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment). The program provides custom homes that support the unique needs of those who have been severely injured while serving our country.
Sergeant Hargis completed four deployments in Afghanistan as an Army Ranger and K9 handler. During one of those missions, he experienced injuries that changed the course of his life and led to the loss of his service dog, Jany. His resilience and strength have made a lasting impression on everyone who has had the privilege of hearing his story. Helping build a home that supports his mobility and well-being is a small but meaningful way to express gratitude.
As part of the Owens Corning Platinum Gives Back initiative, our team donated a full roof installation for the home. Our focus was on delivering high quality work that would help ensure long-term safety, durability, and peace of mind. It was a privilege to be part of a larger team of tradespeople and partners who came together with one shared goal in mind: to serve someone who has given so much.
Projects like this remind us that our work is not only about craftsmanship. It is also about people. When we build with care and intention, we are creating more than just a structure. We are helping create space for healing, comfort, and the routines of everyday life.
The home provided to the Hargis family was designed to make life more accessible, comfortable, and functional. Every element was chosen with purpose. Widened hallways, accessible surfaces, and integrated smart technology all under an expertly installed roof were included to support greater ease and independence for Sergeant Hargis in his daily life. The home offers both practical support and a restored belief on what’s possible.
The dedication ceremony, held on Veterans Day in Nolensville, brought together community members, partner organizations, and supporters who all came to honor Sergeant Hargis and his family. The atmosphere was filled with appreciation, reflection, and the shared understanding that homes like this are built not just with materials, but with care and commitment.
For our team at Storm Guard Roofing of Nashville, this was more than a project. It was an opportunity to act on our values and give back to someone who represents the very best of service and sacrifice. We are proud to have played a role in creating a place where the Hargis family can thrive. We remain committed to serving our community and honoring those who have served us. It is our hope that this home brings comfort, strength, and a sense of stability to Sergeant Hargis and his loved ones for many years to come.
