Roof Replacement Services

A roof replacement removes your existing roof down to the decking and installs a complete new system: ice-and-water barrier, underlayment, drip edge, starter strip, shingles, flashing, and ventilation. It’s a meticulous project that should be handled with care, skill, and expertise; the type of project best left to a certified roofing contractor.

Storm Guard is a national network of locally owned and locally operated roofing companies with an A+ BBB rating and a FORTIFIED certification. We are an Owens Corning Preferred contractor comprised of trained and licensed crew members.

Repair or Replace? Signs You Need a New Roof

Not every damaged roof needs a full replacement, and not every worn one can be patched. Repair isolated damage on a roof under 15 years old: a single leak, a few missing shingles. Replace when damage is widespread, the roof is over 20 years old, leaks keep recurring, or the decking has started to sag.

Some signs point to a system that's reached its limit, and others to one damaged section. Here’s a comparison to help you determine which roofing service you might need.

Repair when  Replace when
There’s one isolated leak There are leaks in more than one spot
There are a few missing shingles There’s widespread granule loss or bald patches
The roof is under 15 years old The roof is over 20 years old
The damage is on one roof plane The storm damaged most of the roof
The decking is solid The decking sags, or daylight shows in the attic

One inspection settles the question, the first step of a free, no-obligation estimate. Schedule A Consultation with your local Storm Guard team.

What a Storm Guard Roof Replacement Includes

Shingles are the part you see. The ice-and-water barrier, underlayment, and flashing underneath decide whether the roof stays dry, and a full replacement rebuilds every layer, not just the top one.

The 10 Steps of a Roof Replacement

  • Full tear-off to the decking. Layovers hide deck damage, like rotting, and can void warranties, so we don't install over an existing layer.
  • Inspection and repair of the decking by replacing any soft or damaged sheathing.
  • Installation of the ice and water barrier at the eaves, valleys, and every part where the water may penetrate, to stop meltwater and wind-driven rain.
  • Placing the drip edge to direct water off the roof edge.
  • Putting synthetic underlayment, a second water-resistant layer beneath the shingles.
  • Installation of the starter strip and shingles according to the manufacturer's pattern.
  • Installing new flashing at walls, chimneys, pipe boots, and other common sources of leaks.
  • Securing the ridge cap and balanced ventilation, such as intake and exhaust, to keep shingles from overheating.
  • Final cleanup including a magnetic nail sweep and full haul-away of the old materials.
  • Final walkthrough and warranty registration, so you know exactly what was done and what's covered.

How Long Does A Roof Replacement Take?

The duration of residential roof replacements varies from home to home. Most asphalt shingle roofs are replaced in one to three days, while steep, tile, slate, or metal roofs take longer. The roof size, complexity of the design, and severity of the damage also affect the labor time. To speed things along, we recommend that homeowners help prepare the site in their own little way. Before the roof replacement contractors arrive, move vehicles out of the driveway, clear exterior walls, cover items in the attic, and keep pets indoors.

Roofing Types & Materials We Install

What a Roof Replacement Costs, and Why We Quote in Person

We don't publish price ranges or per-square-foot figures on this page: costs vary by material, roof condition, and local codes across the states we serve, and a figure accurate in one market is misleading in another.

However, there are six factors that determine your price: roof size in squares (100 per square foot), pitch and complexity, the material you choose, decking repairs discovered during tear-off, how many old layers need to be removed, and local permit and code requirements.

An online calculator can't see soft decking, count penetrations, or read your local code, which is why two similar homes can differ by thousands. That's why Storm Guard provides free, no-obligation estimates in person: a written, itemized estimate covering material, scope, and schedule, with no pressure to sign on the spot. A quote far below everyone else's usually means no tear-off, no ice-and-water barrier, or uninsured labor; ask every contractor to itemize the same ten steps.

Storm Damage, Insurance Claims, and Your Roof Replacement

Storm Guard is a storm restoration company first, and this is the part of the process most contractor websites skip entirely.

The first step is a documented roof damage assessment: photographs, hail test squares, wind-creased or missing shingles, plus collateral damage to gutters or siding. You file the claim; Storm Guard documents it and can meet your adjuster on site.

Insurance typically covers sudden hail, wind, or storm damage, not wear or neglect. Per the Insurance Information Institute, policies pay either actual cash value, the depreciated value at loss, or replacement cost value, depending on your policy. Your deductible remains your responsibility: Storm Guard never waives or absorbs deductibles, a practice that's illegal in many states and a red flag for storm chasers.

How the Claim Process Works

  • Full Documented assessment: we inspect and document the damage.
  • File your claim with your insurer.
  • Adjuster meeting: your local Storm Guard team can meet the adjuster on site.
  • Claim decision: your insurer approves the scope.
  • Replacement scheduled once approved.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

It depends on roof size, pitch, material, the condition of the decking, and local code requirements, so two similar-looking homes can differ by thousands of dollars. Storm Guard provides free, no-obligation estimates that itemize every step, and our roof replacement cost guide explains what moves the number.

Most asphalt shingle roofs are replaced in one to three days. Steep or complex roofs and tile, slate, or standing-seam metal take longer. Weather can add a day. Your written estimate states the schedule, and the crew completes a final walkthrough with you when the work is done.

Most policies cover sudden damage from hail, wind, or falling limbs, and do not cover wear or age. You file the claim; Storm Guard documents the damage and meets the adjuster on site. Your deductible remains your responsibility, and a policy pays either actual cash value or replacement cost value.

Repair isolated damage on a roof under 15 years old, such as one leak or a few missing shingles. Replace when damage is widespread, the roof is past 20 years, leaks keep returning, or the decking is sagging. A roof inspection settles the question, and it's the first step of a free estimate.

Architectural asphalt shingles installed over a full tear-off are the most cost-effective replacement for most homes. A layover of new shingles over old ones saves little, hides deck damage, and can void warranties. Get itemized estimates and compare the same ten steps rather than the lowest total.

No. After the morning walkthrough, you can leave. Before the crew arrives, move vehicles out of the driveway, take pictures of exterior walls, cover stored items in the attic, and keep pets inside. The crew runs a magnetic nail sweep and walks the finished roof with you afterward.
